Beginner Level

Beginner French A1 - 101- 24 hours

Designed for complete beginners, the emphasis of French 101 is on very basic conversational skills. You'll learn to construct basic sentences and learn how to use available tools and resources. The program incorporates phrases and tips for travelers.

After having successfully completed French 101, you will be able to introduce yourself and others, answer basic questions regarding your life and express personal likes and dislikes. You will also have learned the French alphabet and numbers. Welcome packet French 101 (pdf).

Beginner French A1 - 102 - 24 hours

Designed for students who have completed 101 or ‘false beginners,’ (those who have taken French but believe they have forgotten everything), this class emphasizes basic conversational skills. The program alsoincorporates phrases and tips for travelers.
After having successfully completed French 102, you will be able to ask and answer questions about personal details such as where you live, people you know and things you own. You will be able to describe or make simple requests and invitations, understand date and time, and explain basic hopes and opinions. Detailed program (pdf).


Beginner French A1 - 103- 24 hours

After having successfully completed French 103, you will be able to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of concrete needs such as asking for directions, describing a place, and giving orders. You will also be able to tell a story with the use of past tenses. Detailed program (pdf).

 

Beginner French A2 - 104- 24 hours

After having successfully completed French 104, you will be able to make comparisons, tell someone how your day went, express time and duration, and start making sentences that are complex from a syntax point of view. This will conclude your study of the French language as a beginner. You will be ready to move on to an intermediate level. Detailed program (pdf).

 

Intermediate Level

Intermediate French A2 - 201- 24 hours

This course is designed for students who have completed French 104 or who have studied French for a minimum of 100 hours.
After having successfully completed French 201, you will be able to speak in detail about your professional experience, to talk about your past, to express what the point of something is, and to express value judgments. Various topics of conversation will be covered. Detailed program (pdf).

 

Intermediate French A2 - 202- 24 hours

After having successfully completed French 202, you will be able to express possibilities and options, to tell increasingly nuanced stories, to express surprise, feelings and fears. Several aspects of French beliefs and values will be studied, including the relation between public and private life. Detailed program (pdf).

 

Intermediate French A2 - 203- 24 hours

After having successfully completed French 203, you will be able to talk about money, education, travel and music. You will also be able to express cause and effect, describe more subtle impressions and aspirations, and forbid things. Grammar points will include complex sentences, as well as the present continuous and subjunctive. Various aspects of life in France will be discussed. Detailed program (pdf).

 

Intermediate French B1 - 204- 24 hours

After having successfully completed French 204, you will be able to understand and use sentences with the past, subjunctive, and conditional so that you are able to express an event that might happen or for which you have regrets. Several aspects of French life will be studied, including relations between men and women, politeness and immigration. Detailed program (pdf).

 

Conversation Classes B1

Talk in French about yourself and the lives of others. Develop your oral skills so that you can exchange ideas. This is a good way to take a break from regular classes.

 

Advanced Level

Advanced French B1 - 301- 24 hours

This course is designed for students who have completed French 204 or who have studied French for a minimum of 200 hours.
French 301 takes the most important structures of the language to a higher level of communication. Various themes related to life in general and to the French culture in particular are studied this term – including current events. Detailed program (pdf).

 

Advanced French B1 - 302 - 24 hours

This course is designed for students who have completed French 301 or who have studied French for a minimum of 200 hours. Detailed program (pdf).

 

Advanced French B2 - 303 - 24 hours

This course is designed for students who have completed French 302 or who have studied French for a minimum of 200 hours. Detailed program (pdf).

 

Advanced French B2 - 304 - 24 hours

This course is designed for students who have completed French 303 or who have studied French for a minimum of 250 hours. Detailed program (pdf).

 

Advanced French B2 - 305 - 24 hours

This course is designed for students who have completed French 303 or who have studied French for a minimum of 300 hours. Detailed program (pdf).

 

Cultural Classes

Discuss various topics related to current events, culture, and history in a friendly atmosphere where everyone is encouraged to participate. This class will not only help you with your oral skills, it will let you see the world through a different perspective.

 

Conversation Classes

Talk in French about yourself and the lives of others. Develop your oral skills so that you can exchange ideas. This is a good way to take a break from regular classes.
