Les Pêcheurs de Perles

French opera is one of Europe’s most important operatic traditions, containing works by some of the world’s most beloved composers, including Georges Bizet. While many opera lovers may be familiar with Bizet’s most famous work, Carmen, relatively few people have had the chance to enjoy his earlier work Les Pêcheurs de Perles (The Pearl Fishers). Opera Colorado will produce the Rocky Mountain regional premiere of the little-known opera at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in February. Preview the performance with Opera Colorado General Director Greg Carpenter. Learn what makes French opera distinct from other traditions, including how Louis XIV has had a lasting impact on performances today.
