This position is as-needed but could be extended to a regular position. Usually the volunteer will be needed in evenings until 7:30 pm when classes are held. The duties include assisting
students with questions about classes, purchases of memberships and classes, and assisting with the borrowing process from the library. Additionally, the position requires taking phone calls and messages. Proficiency in French may be helpful but is not required. An understanding of the Alliance Française's operations is required.
“Travel Agent”
Initially 2/week then 2/month
The volunteer will be needed to create and maintain a reference area for students, members, and visitors. This area should include information about traveling to and studying in France. This volun teer should also be available as a reference, if needed, for questions and help. Initially the duties will include a setup of the area and once completed, the duties will be reduced to maintenance and
reference.
Librarian
3-4/week
There are approximately 1200 documents borrowed from the AFD library every year. Our goal is to increase this number in the follow ing months. This position includes the following tasks: entering new documents in the catalogue, keep ing track of the circulation of doc uments with our online manage ment system, contacting borrowers for late returns, and helping the office to create events related to the library.
IT Specialist
This position requires computer knowledge and experience with fixing computer problems. The volunteer should be familiar with PC software and with Dell comput ers. The hours required for this position are not definite as the volunteer would be required as problems arise.
The French Correspondent
1/week
The French Correspondent will work with local French companies and those partners participating in the Amis Français program. The Correspondent will communicate weekly with these companies to create a calendar of events and provide information for the weekly e-newsletter. Fluency in French is not required but is helpful.
Volunteer Coordinator
Duties include updating vol unteer database, contacting volunteers when necessary, the management of volunteers at events, and coordinating hours worked with volunteer benefits. Hours are flexible. However, during the time of an event, this position will require a more structured schedule.
Handyman/Woman
4/month or as needed
A volunteer with electric and plumbing skills is needed to per form maintenance work at the Alliance. Duties might include fix ing broken fixtures and the general maintenance of others. This
volunteer should have a fairly flexible schedule as maintenance may be needed at irregular times.
