Synopsis:
Dorante has one little problem: he can’t stop lying to get what he wants, including the lovely Clarice. Mistaken identities, tall tales and complications abound in this classic comedy by French writer Pierre Corneille, transformed into hilarious rhyming verse by David Ives (All in the Timing).
Predecessor to Molière and Racine, Pierre Corneille was a trailblazing French dramatist known both for his tragedies and satirical comedies. His comic masterpiece, The Liar, was written midway through his long career and perfectly captures his style of comedy which he describes as “une peinture de la conversation des honnêtes gens.” This staging of Corneille’s neoclassical gem, adapted by comic playwright David Ives with a twist of updating and delightful rhyming couplets, will prove that style and humor go hand in hand.
