Staff

Jean-François Duclos, Executive Director

Born in Northern France, Jean-François lived there for more than twenty years before being bitten, irremediably, by the travel bug and the aspiration to live overseas. In the continuation of his studies he lived and worked in the United States, Jordan, Romania and France, before going to Australia for 4 years in order to manage the Alliance Française in Adelaide—and now he is back in the United States. He has been a university lecturer, a book seller, the director of the French Department in an International School in New York, and a teacher in French schools. He loves reading and biking, among other things.

Jean François can be reached at director@afdenver.org

Suzanne Grey, Development and Marketing Manager

When asked about working at the Alliance, Suzanne said this: “It is pure pleasure for me to work around all things French and I am so glad to be part of the Alliance Française team!” Suzanne has spent 26 years as a resource development professional in Denver. After her start as a public broadcasting volunteer with KRMA, Channel Six, she moved on to two human service agencies - Family Tree in Jefferson County and later with Urban Peak in downtown Denver. During her 19 years with Family Tree, she teamed up with former Denver Bronco Rich Karlis and organized his Points for People fundraising program. She has also been involved in the retail and wholesale world. She loves traveling (twice to France), makes her home in Golden, and adores her four grandchildren.

Suzanne can be reached at suzanne@afdenver.org

Jennifer Conder, Office Manager

Jennifer has been with the Alliance Française since May 2006. She is a native of Colorado, born and raised in Littleton, and schooled in English Literature and French at Colorado College. She spent three years after college in Québec, Canada, studying, working and trying to improve her French. Upon return to the States she worked in independent bookselling for many years before becoming the office manager at the Alliance Française.

Baptiste

Baptiste Bourquardez, Marketing Intern

Baptiste is our new intern for the next 6 months (june/november). Baptiste is originally from Alsace, a vineyard region on the French/German border. Then he moved in northern France to continue his studies in Lille. He is currently earning his master's degree in Cultural Development: Intercultural Relations and International Cooperation at Lille University and will graduate next September. He is glad to have the opportunity to work for the Alliance Française which allows him to live in a cross-cultural world as he has always wished. He loves to travel, spend time with friends, cook, practice sports and listen to music.

Baptiste can be reached by email at communication@afdenver.org

Ariel Lewis

Ariel Lewis, Receptionist

Ariel is the newest staff member at Alliance Française, and is also  brand new to Colorado. Hailing from Virginia, she trekked out here in  a stunning act of faith after graduating from the College of William
and Mary with a B.A. in French. One of those true Francophiles, Ariel  spent a classic year in Montpellier, France as an undergrad, and has  been trying to relive that experience ever since returning to the U.S.  She thinks she may have found the perfect solution at the AF. Come  meet her and talk about books, failed recipes, or possible activities  to do in Denver in the winter that don't involve skiing!

Ariel can be reached by email at afd@afdenver.org

Lindsay Essex, Gallery Coordinator

Lindsay works with the art gallery space at the Alliance Française. She is originally Canadian, but went to high school here in Denver. She majored in French and fine art in college, and studied in Nantes, France. She also lived and taught English in Rennes, France. She currently works part-time at Denver International School, and the rest of her time is devoted to being a photographer. Her thoughts on working with the Alliance: “I am very excited to be promoting French and Francophone culture with the great people at the Alliance!”
