Designed for students at the B1 level and above, this 6-week virtual course will focus on the works of internationally acclaimed artists who happen to be from Belgium. Students will discover, explore, and discuss the oeuvre of singers and songwriters, authors, painters, and architects, notably Jacques Brel, Stromae, Axelle Red, Georges Simenon (detective novelist, author of the Maigret), Amélie Nothomb, Hergé (known for The Adventures of Tintin), Magritte, Delvaux, Horta (founder of the Art Nouveau movement), among others.
The class will be divided into three segments: the first two weeks will be devoted to singers and songwriters, the following two weeks to authors and the most popular European cartoonist, and the last two weeks to art and architecture. Students will be invited to give presentations on a specific artist, work of art, or movement.
Finally, class will be conducted entirely in French.
