World renowned artist, Witold K, was a long-standing member of the Alliance Française community and many will remember his openings and paintings being displayed at our gallery in years past. This documentary includes interviews with members of our Franco-American community in Denver.

Every life is touched by history, but some are swept along by events that are hit with uncustomary force. Such is the case with 90-year-old Witold-K, a Polish-American artist and citizen of the world, whose life tells a story of creativity, courage, and survival. Witold's life and art are the subjects of On the Edge, featuring Witold at work in his Denver and Warsaw studios. A dynamic personality and riveting storyteller, Witold recalls his formative years living with his psychiatrist father in Warsaw's largest mental institution during the Nazi occupation of Poland, his exile in Paris, traveling in artistic circles that included Pablo Picasso and the poet Jacques Prévert, his time in New York City in the late 1960s where he continued to develop as a painter, and in Los Angeles in 1969 where he became close friends with director Roman Polanski (he was with Polanski on the night after the gruesome Tate-LaBianca murders). Despite a life of turmoil and dislocation, Witold has become a prolific and respected artist (more than 50 solo or group shows in Europe and the U.S.)
