Kids Activities at the Children's Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus

What began as an experiment in 2014 through a SCFD collaborative partnership grant  has continued to this day as one of our most treasured partnerships and programs. The Alliance Française de Denver hosts several French inspired kids activities at the Children's Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus each month. We are truly appreciative of their continued support and collaboration. For a full list of activities check out our Events Calendar and head over to our Kids Events Page for more information.

J'adore Ciné Club in Partnership with the Denver Film Society

The Alliance Française de Denver is thrilled to partner with the Denver Film Society year after year for a monthly celebration of French cinema! On select Wednesdays every month the Denver Film Society will host a screening of a French (or Francophone) film at the SIE FilmCenter. Each screening will be followed by a Q&A discussion. Before the film, ticket holders enjoy a free glass of wine in the Henderson-Whitney Lounge, from 6:00-7:00pm. Come meet others AFD & DFS members interested in French and Francophone films.

60th Anniversary of African Independance

60th Anniversary of African Independance

Speaker : Virgile Rivet Samba-Moussinga, author of Simi Mazulu ou la Nouvelle Afrique, Editions Les Impliqués, Paris, France, August 2019.

In 2020, most of African countries are celebrating their sixtieth anniversary of their independence. From the slavery trade to colonization, the continent has survived several invasions by foreign powers devastating its political sociology and culture. To many scholars and political leaders, the overall question today is whether African countries are independent. In addition, is the current general situation of African countries better than during the colonization? From the 1960s up to 2020, newly independent African countries faced several challenges which are still somewhat pending: insurrections, civil wars, restrictions of human rights and public freedoms, economic crises, corruption, lack of good governance, turning the continent into a huge hell for young people who are forced to leave their home countries, dreaming to thrive overseas no matter what are the circumstances. Today, Africa needs a new leadership. Simi Mazulu ou la Nouvelle Afrique, a 120-page novel by Virgile Rivet Samba-Moussinga is revealing the vision of the Fathers of African independence which is to set up a Continental Federal State in which justice, peace and security will grant to everyone the opportunity to thrive. Is this dream realistic? Let us wait and see.

Virgile Rivet Samba-Moussinga has a 14-year professional experience in practicing law. A citizen from the Republic of Congo, he is pursuing several research-projects and professional development programs in the United States of America. He has published a research work in December 2018, Criminal liability of healthcare professionals in Congo, and a novel, Simi Mazulu ou la Nouvelle Afrique in August 2019.

WHAT OUR MEMBERS ARE SAYING

Stephen G.

"Alliance Française de Denver created a wonderful virtual environment where I spent my Summer vacation; visiting the winemaking area of Bouzy; celebrating Bastille Day; learning how to cook with flowers; touring historic châteaux and beautiful villages; all in the safety and comfort of my home. A real treat for any Francophone person; especially having a daily place for French chat to try out and maintain colloquial skills."

Stephen G.

Sue T.

“Anne is fantastic! The material is fast paced for this ‘old dog’ to learn new tricks, but we couldn’t go slower. It’s been very helpful to prepare me for my trip to France.”

Sue T.

Cristina G.

“A great place to learn and practice French while getting acquainted with French culture and interesting people. I definitely recommend AFD and their events. Je parle français! Et vous?”
