We have a wide variety of adult French classes taught in a friendly, intimate setting. What would you like to learn today?

Our syllabus is based on the latest teaching methods and on the CEFR (the Common European Framework) : our complete curriculum will take you from complete beginner to proficient user. If you are a complete beginner, simply choose our A1.1 classes. For more information about CEFR levels, click HERE
Classes will be confirmed or cancelled the Wednesday or Thursday before the first week of classes.


Beginner: A1.1 to A1.4

Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases deemed essentials for basic needs. Can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.


Upper Beginner: A2.1 to A2.4

Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.


Intermediate: B1.1 to B1.4

Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where French is spoken. Can produce simple written connected texts on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.



Upper Intermediate: B2.1 to B2.4

Can understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed texts on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.



Advanced: C1.1 to C1.4

Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning. Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, demonstrating use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.

TYPE OF FRENCH CLASSES FOR ADULTS 


Foundation courses

Course based on a curriculum designed to learn the language and build a strong foundation. Essential to reach proficiency in French. Meets 2.5 hours a week over 11 weeks.

Intensive

Brush-up courses: One-week intensive course to review grammar and communication skills. Great for students wishing to review skills they have forgotten; essential for those wanting to reach the next level! Meets 2 hours a day for 5 days. Introduction to French: Learn the very basics of French in one week! Meets 2 hours daily for 5 days.


Fast Track

Fast Track version of our foundation courses. Meets 2.5 hours twice a week over 4 weeks. Highly dynamic class for a fast-paced learning experience! In a 12-week session, ambitious students can complete three levels instead of one!

Conversation classes

Course designed to practice the language and converse with peers about culture and current events.

Workshops

Generally, 5 or 6-week cultural course on literature, art, cinema, fashion, culinary, music, or history. Taught entirely in French, students are immersed in a cultural experience.
